A place where past meets future
Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church (Gedächtniskirche or “The Hollow Tooth”) is perhaps the most amazing architectural symbol of Berlin. Built in 1895 by order of Wilhelm II, the Church was almost completely destroyed during the Second World War. Berliners decided not to demolish the remains of the building, and a new Church was built next to the old destroyed walls. Today the complex looks really impressive thank to amazing neighborhood of different eras.
Shopping center of Europe
European capital, in addition to the history, also offers an unforgettable shopping experience. In the heart of Berlin there is (probably became a historic) shopping center KaDeWe. Founded in 1905, today it is the second largest shopping center in Europe (after London’s Harrods). Here you can buy anything you want; also in the center there are many restaurants and cafes. You have to visit KaDeWe, even if you are not a shopping fan; anyway it’s a kind of symbol of Berlin.
If you prefer organic open air shopping – then get off at Wittenbergplatz. Every Tuesday and Friday here takes place Farmers’ Market. Here you always find something unusual, like purple carrots or bison meat. And also usual vegetables, fruits, flowers and all kinds of Goodies right in front of KaDeWe!
